It's clean, safe and simple, and doesn't create any long-term residue.
When oxygen (O2) rises into our planet's atmosphere and is exposed
to the ultraviolet rays from the sun, mother nature converts it
into ozone (O3).
This is what we call the "ozone layer" and it protects us from the sun's harmful UV rays.

Ozone is made up of 3 atoms of oxygen (O3), which is an unstable and reactive molecule. It looks for something to 'oxidize,' resulting in pure, safe, breathable oxygen.
|
Ozone (O3) is a molecule made from three atoms of oxygen, temporarily bonded together. However, this molecule is very unstable and wants to revert back into O2 (oxygen).
This process is known as "oxidation." This process also has the effect of destroying or altering whatever molecule it bonds with. A perfect example of this is when iron rusts or when a slice of apple turns brown.
Large amounts of energy are required to create ozone by bonding the 3 oxygen molecules together. Most of us have smelled the clean fresh air right after a powerful lightning storm. Well, it wasn't just "fresh air" it was more than likely that you smelled the ozone that was created by that powerful act of nature.
Those lightning bolts which were traveling through the air generated enough energy to form a reasonable small number of O3 molecules. These dissipate quickly after a storm.
Put simply, ozone is made up of something we depend upon to exist, which is able to be concentrated to very high toxic levels, which, by the way, are able to kill bacteria, virus or mold. Afterwhich it quickly reverts back to its non-toxic form.
Click on any of the following topics to learn more about the power of ozone.
Ozone and "Shock Treatments"
Ozone "Shock Treatments" are simply high levels of ozone in a confined area for a limited amount of time. These are very effective for removing stubborn odors like smoke from a fire, mildew and animal odors. It is used to sterilize an unoccupied room with a large amount of ozone to kill many of the odors.
In fact, many hospitals around the world use ozone to sterilize operating theaters between operations. How does it work? Simple. After each operation has been completed and the routine manual cleaning performed, the doors and ventilation points are sealed and a vast amount of ozone is injected into the room. Everyday around the world, hospitals and ordinary homes are cleaned using the amazing power of natural ozone.
This is completely different from the use of ozone for low level air purifying.
The air purifying machines frequently advertised on television are ozone-generating machines which are only capable of low-level generation, which this company does not endorse.
High Ozone Shock Treatments are only to be undertaken in rooms when no people, animals, or plants are present. This is because a high toxic level of ozone is needed to kill the germs, mold, and viruses present in the room.
One of the only non-chemical ways to effectively sterilize an area of mold and bacteria or remove certain serious odor causing problem is with these very high levels of ozone.
The more ozone generated in a room, the more mold, bacteria, viruses and other contaminants are likely to be destroyed.
These treatments are safe because they are only done in unoccupied rooms. The professional operator turns the ozone generator up to its maximum capacity of ozone output, sets the countdown timer, and leave the room. People, animals and plants can then return to the area an hour or more after the unit's timer has shut the machine down all the ozone will have reverted back to simple, breathable, safe oxygen by then.
These high ozone shock treatments are what kill mold and bacteria, not the low levels used for air purification in the "As Seen On TV" type models.
What about 'tabletop' ozone generators?
While these retail "As Seen On TV" type machines may kill some airborne spores, they cannot possibly sterilize a room of various odors, bacteria, mold etc and have little or no effect on surface mold and bacteria. Sterilizing areas of mold and bacteria can ONLY be accomplished with levels of ozone vastly above the level that could be considered 'safe'.
This can be proven by ozone / bacterial / mold killing studies where several prominent universities and labs have proven this fact beyond a reasonable doubt.
Is Ozone Safe?
Often, we are asked whether or not these high amounts of ozone are safe.
The answer is, well, yes! Simply because we ONLY perform our treatments when rooms or even the whole building has been cleared of any living beings (people, cats, dogs, etc) and plants. The trained technician strategically places the machine or machines, activates the countdown timer and departs the area.
The bad press about the use of ozone relates to OCCUPIED rooms. Odoronix does not promote the use of ozone generators in occupied rooms.
We shall say it again; Performing High Ozone "Shock Treatments" is ONLY to be done in UNOCCUPIED areas.
Ozone is possibly the strongest sterilizer known to mankind, yet it has an overall failsafe because it is made up completely of oxygen and reverts back to perfectly safe and breathable oxygen in a relatively short time.
That's one of the best features of ozone. It can be very toxic at high levels -- which you must by definition have in order to kill the harmful airborne particles -- and yet has the ability to revert completely back to a completely non toxic state very quickly. Because of these amazing qualities ozone may be the safest, yet most powerful bactericides available.
Fungicides & Chemicals
Fungicides are great at killing mold, up to a point. The downside is that they leave toxic substances in your home. Which may be a case of "Out of the frying pan and into the fire".
Even though the strength of these powerful chemicals does diminish, it takes a considerable length of time for them to be completely removed. In some cases weeks or even months. Once their job is done and they have "off-gassed", fungicides don't have the toxicity left in them to kill any remaining mold, and they do not prevent it from coming back.
Note: Remember, mold spores are around us everywhere. They are part of nature's kingdom.
Put simply, you will have the worst of both worlds you will still have toxic chemicals in your home that are doing little or nothing to prevent the mold from returning and the toxic substances are still in your environment.
